With considerable difficulty, I have managed to add to my sidebar three top 15 lists...one for actors, one for actresses, and one for movies. I actually could have kept going and made them top 20 lists. It totally kills me to leave Joseph Cotten, Humphrey Bogart, and Tyrone Power off my actor list. And leaving Ginger Rogers, Ingrid Bergman, and Thelma Ritter off my actress list just seems wrong. And, of course, I LOVE far more than fifteen movies, so that list could have gone on as well. However, I had to draw the line somewhere, so...there you have it...my fifteen favorite actors, actresses, and movies.
I'd love to hear about y'all's favorites, so please feel free to share about them in your comment.
Happy viewing to all!!!
Classic movies are not just antiquated films from a bygone era...rather, they are beautiful, well-acted, well-written gems that ought not to fade into obscurity. Truly, Hollywood just doesn't make 'em like they used to!!! I hope you'll discover some must-sees by your visit here.

I was thinking about doing lists like that. That is a very bold thing to do! I like your lists for the fact that it is not the usual stars in the top lists.
ReplyDeleteGreat lists you have there Patti. I had to respond because I noticed you have been commenting on my recent March Madness thing I have going on. I am glad to see Cary Grant and Carole Lombard make your list as they are my top actor and actress of all time. Also love that you have Holden, Kelly,, Loy, and Stanwyck. By the way I am following your awesome blog as well now.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to think about my favorites. However, I love reading your reviews :) :) Jimmy Stewart is a favorite, for sure...after that, I'm not sure!!! :) :) :) Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
ReplyDeleteClark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Ray Milland, Loretta Young, Bette Davis, Myrna Loy, I could go on and on:)
ReplyDeleteRondell
Love that you have Judy Holiday and John Garfield in your list!! :") Would be very hard for me to choose.. :")
ReplyDelete(visiting via Monty's blog)
Rondell, I agree...one could go on and on. There were SO MANY great actors and actresses in the classic era.
ReplyDeleteI totally love Bette Davis and 5 star most of her movies. I think she nearly always gave an Oscar-worthy performance.
And...we just recently enjoyed once again Clark Gable's finest performance. Gone with the Wind. Totally love that movie. Love Gable in that one!!
Irene, thanks so much for coming over from Monty's.
ReplyDeleteYeah, John Garfield and Judy Holliday are definitely not stars that most people are going to have on their faves list. I am marching to my own drummer there.
Not sure what it is about Garfield (or Robert Ryan for that matter). They're both bad boy types, and their characters are rarely likeable. Yet, they both are must-watch for me. (Except, I'm not much for Westerns, so I usually skip Ryan's Westerns).
And Judy Holliday...she is pure delight. When I saw her for the first time (Born Yesterday), I nearly freaked out at that strong New York accent, but I've grown to love it...and her. It's a shame she died so young...I would have enjoyed many more years of her movies.
Oh, ok... Now I know why the Coop stamp has been your one-and-only stamp-of-choice since it came out. My #1 favorite is your #11- Jimmy Stewart. Great lists!
ReplyDeleteYour top 15 movie list is great Patti. I especially love that you have Sunset Blvd, Penny Serenade, Imitation of life and The Best Years of our Lives on there. Those are some of my faves.
ReplyDeleteOh, Tom, really it was quite hard to rate them. Even Holden and Coop are only a smidge apart. And after Cary Grant, well the next several are all pretty much neck and neck. So, the reality is that Jimmy Stewart is really up there with everyone else.
ReplyDeleteMonty...Penny Serenade is my all-time favorite Cary Grant movie. It used to be the biggest tearjerker movie for me...then I saw Madame X. Oh, and that scene at Delilah's funeral in Imitation of Life...sob time!!! You have great taste in movies!
