Without question, I am a card sender. While email is a quick, easy, and convenient way to keep in touch, I also love love love to send note cards. I mean, a trip to the mailbox is surely brightened when, besides the bills and junk, you also come away with a sweet card that lets you know you're being thought about and wished a lovely day. And when that card arrives with the gorgeous Gary Cooper stamp affixed to it, it's even more beautiful to receive!!!
Ever since the Coop stamp was unveiled by the United States Postal Service in September, 2009, it is the ONLY stamp I have used. I bought a half dozen sheets on several occasions, which gave me a nice stash on hand. For the past two Christmases, my cards went out with Coop's gorgeous image in the upper right hand corner. I even managed to put a sheet of stamps aside (in a protective plastic cover!!) to keep as a souvenir.
Alas, though, my stash has dwindled, and now I have only fourteen Gary Cooper stamps left (not counting the souvenir sheet, which I don't intend to use). I'm a bit in agony about that (not real agony, of course, but y'all know what I mean.) Unless my post office has some sheets of Coop still available (which they did in December), then I won't be able to get anymore...unless I want to buy them at collector's prices online, and I don't. I'm not a stamp collector...I just want to mail my letters and cards with Coop's handsome face in front of me.
I'm wondering, who is the next Hollywood Legends stamp to be unveiled? I know that the Katharine Hepburn stamp came out sometime in 2010, but since I had a huge Coop supply and really don't care for her anyway, I never got any of those. Anyone know who the next stamp is? And when it will be released?
That's it for today...happy viewing to all!!
Classic movies are not just antiquated films from a bygone era...rather, they are beautiful, well-acted, well-written gems that ought not to fade into obscurity. Truly, Hollywood just doesn't make 'em like they used to!!! I hope you'll discover some must-sees by your visit here.

Cool post Patti. And that's a great image of Coop that they decided to use. As to answer your question about voting on my march madness polls, I set it for one vote per person. That means once you vote that one time, that's it. So I am surprised at the huge turnout. Word of mouth must be spreading. Which is great. Thanks for continuing to stop by and leave comments. It's always nice to hear from fellow movie fans. Have a great day Patti.
ReplyDeleteWow, I didn't even know about these stamps! Do you know if there was ever a Cary Grant stamp?
ReplyDeleteI do send my dad, my in-laws and my grandparents in-law cards cuz they just love getting them. My dad keeps them out for ages, too cute!
I tried to find out about the stamps but it looks like they haven't announced the next stamp. Hepburn was the last stamp.
ReplyDeleteThis is so neat. I wish they had a Howard Keel stamp. Did they have a Doris Day stamp?
ReplyDeleteOh, how fun!!
Wonderful stamp! I hadn't realized old Coop was on one! And to Victoria, YES, there was a Cary Grant stamp. Hopefully you can still buy them. Great post, as always, Patti! PS Whenver I arrived on this blog, I get goose bumps, hearing Glenn Miller's "Moonlight Serenade". That was one of my mom's favorite songs, and I don't know what it is about it...but every time I hear it, I just melt!
ReplyDeleteWow - the only stamp you've used!? A true fan!! P.S. the next stamp will be Gregory Peck, but I'm not sure what day it comes out. Also, there will be a Helen Hayes stamp coming out this year sometime, too. I may have to purchase mine online because celebrity stamps are not in high demand at my local post office. Apparently no one in my neighborhood knows who these legends are. Sigh!
ReplyDeleteTom, thanks for the heads-up. I hadn't heard that Peck was getting a stamp. I will definitely want to be using those. Such a voice that man had!!
ReplyDeleteOn another note, I buy my stamps at a little satellite post office. It's actually a scrapbooking store, but they contract with the postal service to have a little post office in their place. You can mail stuff there, buy products, etc. Well, even though the Hepburn stamp came out sometime last year, in December (the last time I bought stamps), they still had some Coop stamps left. While I was excited about that because it enabled me to buy more, it also made me sigh (like you) because, obviously, people aren't interested in his stamp...either they have no clue who he is...or, dare I say it, they just don't like him. Either way, it kind of breaks my heart.
