I Am Definitely "In the Mood"
Well, my classic movie-lovin' friends, besides loving the films of the 1940's, are any of y'all drawn to the music of that decade as well? I know I am; the big band music which is so synonymous with the 1940's completely and totally draws me in. I love it! What I wouldn't give to spend a Saturday evening in a vintage outfit, moving on the dance floor to the sounds of Glenn Miller and his orchestra.
With my love for 1940's music, I was positively thrilled when I discovered that there is an international touring group solely dedicated to those wonderful big band sounds. Featuring the In the Mood singers and dancers and the String of Pearls Big Band Orchestra, In the Mood, a 1940's Musical Revue has just begun its 20th year of touring the world. Even better...my city is one of the stops on their fall tour; in fact, Veteran's Day is the day they will be in my neck of the woods. Without question, I am going to attend this concert (with my daughter); in fact, we already have our tickets. As for price, I think it is very reasonable. Our tickets were $29.50 each...and that is for seating in the best section of our performing arts auditorium. (Just for cost comparison, when we went to see Wicked in the same auditorium, the tickets were $92.50 each.)
So, for those of y'all who like the musical sounds of the 1940's, pop by the In the Mood Live website (HERE) to see if your city is one of the dozens on their fall tour schedule. Maybe, like my daughter and me, you will have a chance to tap your foot to those wonderful big band tunes.

There are many wonderful blogs out there in blogland---and so little time to read them all. Therefore, I am truly humbled that you took the time to not only stop by my little place in the blogosphere, but to share your thoughts as well. Thank you for visiting...and for commenting. I hope your visit here was enjoyable and that you will return again soon.

I have to confess, as much as I love movies from the 40's, I'm not a fan of the music. The only one I can listen to and enjoy is Frank Sinatra and I think he was more 50's?
ReplyDeleteBut your show sounds like it's going to be wonderful!!! Hopefully you won't be the only dressed up this time!
Actually, Victoria, Frank Sinatra was quite successful in the 40's. He began his career as a singer for bandleader Harry James, and then he moved on to work with Tommy Dorsey's Orchestra. While I love him when he is a solo act, I also quite enjoy his big band works.
DeletePatti, I'm so glad you posted this! I'm sure I would've read about it coming to St. Louis sooner or later, but sooner is better! You know I would LOVE to go. All I have to do is remember who of my friends would love it as much as me....and obviously, it's NOT my husband! :)
ReplyDeleteYay!! Your city is among the tour stops. That's awesome! Hope you remember which of your friends will enjoy it and that y'all get a chance to go.
DeleteI love music from the 1940s! I listen to it all the time, have a whole bunch of albums. I used to listen to it when I was a kid too. My sister loved the 1960's music, and preferred the 1940's. My dad always laughs when he visits me and I'm playing something from his childhood.
ReplyDeleteThat concert sounds like it will be a lot of fun!! Looks like they aren't scheduled for CA at this time, but maybe in the future.
Hi Patti, you may enjoy this site http://www.1940sukradio.co.uk/ They play music from the war years along with actual news broadcasts and serial dramas. Love it! Dee
ReplyDeleteHow fun this would be! Sadly, the show doesn't come near us but maybe in the future.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time!! It sure going to be a night to remember!!
