Of all the men on my "30 favorite actors list," one of them is actually still alive, and that man will be taking center stage here at They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To this month. That man is the incredibly talented Sidney Poitier.
While I will be watching and reviewing the films of others and also taking part in the CMBA blogathon saluting films of the 1940's, the bulk of February's action will be devoted to Mr. Poitier. He was an amazingly gifted actor, and I never fail to be impressed with his performance.
So, expect to discover some intense, meaty, hard-hitting dramas here at They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To this month, including my first 5-star film discovery of the year.
Classic movies are not just antiquated films from a bygone era...rather, they are beautiful, well-acted, well-written gems that ought not to fade into obscurity. Truly, Hollywood just doesn't make 'em like they used to!!! I hope you'll discover some must-sees by your visit here.

There are many wonderful blogs out there in blogland---and so little time to read them all. Therefore, I am truly humbled that you took the time to not only stop by my little place in the blogosphere, but to share your thoughts as well. Thank you for visiting...and for commenting. I hope your visit here was enjoyable and that you will return again soon.

I'll be looking forward to this one! I think I've only seen a couple of Sidney's films, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner being one of them and another where I believe he played a teacher.
ReplyDeleteThe one where he played the school teacher is "To Sir, with Love," and it is one of the films I intend to review.
DeleteBe still my heart. He is BEYOND handsome :o) Dee
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed, Dee...very handsome. And he is still looking mighty fine...at nearly 86 years old!
DeleteI can not wait to see what your first 5-star film discovery of the year is.
ReplyDeleteMine is... The Garden of Allah(1936).
Dawn, here's something funny. In all of last year, I had 6 "new to me" 5-star films. (Discovering for the first time). We are only 32 days into this current year, and I've already got 4!!! And that's not including a couple Sidney films I've not yet seen but will be watching during his birthday month. I could end up with 7 5-star films by the end of the month.
DeleteAs for "Garden of Allah," your review made me hungry to see this. I am setting my DVR when it airs later this month. Can't wait!
only seen a handful of his films but he was great in them all...most recently i finally saw Lilies of the Field, i really enjoyed it! so far tho, his performance in Patch of Blue is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen "Lilies of the Field." It's one of those I will be catching for the first time this month.
DeleteAnd, "A Patch of Blue" is an amazing film. One of my favorites of his...though the more of his works I see, the more favorites I have!! He really was terrific in everything!
be prepared to be emotionally devastated! its really heavy stuff but so well done and realistic, not overblown. i will enjoy reading your take on it!
